"[T]he IC Commercial Space Council is discussing commercial protection right now. We had a meeting on Tuesday, and it came up," said NGA's David Gauthier, who chairs the council.
"As an agency, we've been pretty clear that there really isn't a material difference ... between tactical ISR or strategic ISR. It's just ISR. It's taking pictures from space," said Pete Muend, NRO's director of commercial operations.
"Our goal is to ultimately develop a comprehensive set of needs and gap analysis with traceable documentation of the joint warfighter requirements for space," said Lt. Gen. Chance Saltzman, before investing in solutions.
US firms won "gold" in only three of the nine categories — the same number as China — in the NGA's "Commercial Imaging Olympics."
